Intersoft

This week marks a significant milestone for Intersoft.

On the 30th March 2016, we joined forces with the team at Royal Mail, officially becoming an approved third party provider of Royal Mail services, and part of the Royal Mail Group.

Over that past decade, Intersoft’s journey with Royal Mail has been defined by incredible growth and sustained innovation. In that time, Intersoft technology has supported the shipping of over 2.6 billion shipments, growing from under 10 million shipments in the first year of the partnership to more than 650 million processed last year alone. The business has expanded significantly, too, with the team expanding from around 17 employees to nearly 100 by 2026, accommodated by three office moves. All the while, Intersoft has continued to invest in its people, platforms and partnerships.

It’s been a long journey since our launch in the early 90’s, constantly evolving alongside the latest technologies to stay at the forefront of delivery trends. Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights over the years, and how we arrived at the incredible partnership Intersoft and Royal Mail share today.

A History of Innovation

Intersoft was founded in 1993, with a clear focus on using technology to simplify data transfer and delivery operations. In the early years, the business developed tools such as Netfax, a data transfer application using fax technology, followed by iServer, which automated email data transfer.

As eCommerce began to accelerate, Intersoft continued to evolve its platforms to meet changing retailer and carrier needs. Over time, this included the launch of Smarty, a web based automated tracking solution, and later Intelligent Shipper, which was developed in collaboration with major retailers including Harrods.

Innovation has remained central to Intersoft’s growth. The platform has expanded to include increased automation alongside solutions designed to improve the post purchase experience, including the Returns Dashboard and Returns Portal.

In 2025, our newest platform, Sapient, got up and running, making it easier than ever for our customers to easily integrate with carriers and manage their deliveries, covering not just labelling and manifesting, but also providing Out of Home data covering the growing locker landscape, tracking data powering post purchase communications and data cleansing to help  with the growing complexities of International eCommerce trade.

With new Returns functionality coming in the summer, Sapient continues to grow and offer a wider range of options for our users with an ever growing list of carriers, both in the UK and globally.

Recognition and Reward

Intersoft’s work has been recognised across the industry, receiving over 50 industry awards across a ten year period, including winning multiple Innovation and Customer service awards from recognised awards bodies such as the eCommerce Awards, and the Direct Commerce Awards.

We’ve even been awarded for our behind the scenes work, having been recognised as a Great Place to Work for three years in a row.

10 Years with the Royal Mail Group

Over the past 10 years as part of the Royal Mail Group, Intersoft has continued to evolve its carrier management platforms in line with the changing needs of retailers and carriers across the eCommerce landscape.

During this time, Intersoft has expanded its core delivery management capabilities, building on its single API approach to support multi carrier shipping, automated label generation, tracking webhooks, branded delivery notifications and streamlined returns. All of these solutions are designed to help retailers scale efficiently and improve the post purchase experience.

Product innovation has remained a central focus throughout the decade. Intersoft has enhanced automation across its platforms, introduced new tools to improve visibility and reporting, and launched solutions specifically designed to support Royal Mail’s internal processes, such as Pro Shipping, IPROL, BCAS and the IEDE system.

The latest trends in eCommerce have shown a significant shift toward Out of Home delivery options, and Intersoft has worked alongside Royal Mail to provide access to a range of these solutions, including pick up and drop off locations, Royal Mail Parcel Collect services, and Royal Mail lockers. Adapting to these changes in habits is an essential part of staying ahead of the game.

Of course, as an approved third‑party provider of Royal Mail, Intersoft has played an important role in supporting retailers, brands and third‑party logistics providers with seamless Royal Mail integrations, enabling customers to ship and return Royal Mail orders directly from their eCommerce websites and marketplaces using Intersoft’s technology.

Most importantly, the last decade has been shaped by the people behind the platforms. The combined expertise, collaboration and dedication of teams across Intersoft and the Royal Mail Group have supported continuous improvement, long term partnerships, and ongoing innovation within the rapidly evolving delivery and eCommerce landscape.

As Intersoft looks ahead, the focus remains on keeping its strong foundations, whilst also never shying away from the latest technologies.
